Enterprise Architect, Texas Health and Human Services Commission - Austin, TX
The Java Application Architect will review existing WebSphere 6.0 applications, create design documentation for the remediated applications, and assist with the development of the new applications. The remediated applications will be targeted for WebSphere 9.0, or possibly another application server environment. The Application Architect will work with the HHSC DCS and application teams to provide the specifications for the required hardware and software infrastructure supporting the new application server environment. This upgrade will result in legacy applications moving from unsupported technologies to newer versions. The newly architected applications will reside in the DCS Consolidated Data Center.
• Review and document existing “As Is” application architectures and technologies.
• Identify and document the “To Be” application architectures and technologies, to target deployment on WebSphere 9.0 or other current application server.
• Develop the technical specifications for the upgrade, ensuring that all components are compatible with Java 8 and WebSphere 9 or Java 11 in another application server.
• Develop prototypes for the upgraded applications, to include samples of how to implement each of the new technologies.
• Advise and assist development teams in the completion of the application upgrades.
This position will require knowledge of multiple Java technologies and frameworks, such as JSP, JSF, JSTL, Struts, Hibernate, JMS, AJAX, JQuery, JMS, JasperReports, and SOAP web services. An understanding of these technologies is required to help resolve issues launching the applications.
Strong communication skills are required as this position interacts with multiple business groups, at different levels within the organization.
